Cognato
Cognato is the work of two Swedish cousins, David Sommestad and Adam Malmnäs, who wanted a wine they could pour with dinner without the alcohol. Wine lovers themselves, and both raising young families, they went looking for an alcohol-free bottle worth drinking and found nothing that measured up. So in 2018 they set out to make one.
The name "Cognato" means "closely related to," and that is exactly what these are: real wine, made from real grapes, with the alcohol gently removed. Cognato starts with proper winemaking, then dealcoholizes, so what reaches the glass keeps the character of the grape rather than imitating it. The result is a range that is dry, food-friendly, and low in sugar, made for the table and for modern life.
Produced in the vineyards of South Africa, in partnership with growers there, the whole range is Fairtrade certified, a commitment to fair and sustainable conditions from vine to bottle. Scandinavian sensibility, South African winemaking, and an honest belief that choosing alcohol-free should never feel like settling for less.
From the crisp, citrus-bright Chenin Blanc to the soft, dark-fruited Cabernet Sauvignon, a delicate Rosé and a fresh, celebratory Sparkling, every Cognato is a wine closely related to the ones you know, made to be enjoyed on your own terms.
